Christian Merli, behind the wheel of the Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM, wins with new track record the 54th Fagioli Trophy that from Gubbio leads to Madonna della Cima, 9th round of the Italian Speed Championship in the Mountains. He was first in Race 1 with a record in a duel that saw him overtake Faggioli by seven tenths and conquerthe the first step of the podium in Race 2 in the rain. Two heats, in the province of Perugia, with a length of 4,150 kilometers. Behind him Simone Faggioli with Norma M20 FC and Denny Zardo with the other Norma. The Blue City Motorsport team rider took part in four time-pieces of the Italian Mountain Speed Championship and won in Morano, Ascoli and Gubbio, while in Bondone, due to the sudden shutdown of the engine, he finished seventh.
Christian, ninth win of the season
"It was a great weekend, where we excelled both in practice and in the race. This morning we broke the new track record and won by only seven cents on Faggioli. In the afternoon it started to rain and our wet Avon showed a marked improvement. More than satisfied. He wanted us and now we go to Slovenia for the 11th European event."
The evidence
The first heat sees Christian Merli in the lead with a lead of 1:27 on Faggioli and 5:76 on the Osella PA21 Evo 2000 of the leader of the Italian Mountain Speed Championship, Omar Magliona. In the second reconnaissance, the Blue City Motorsport rider is the leader in 1:32.94. Faggioli followed him at 1:61 and Denny Zardo with the Norma M20 FC at 5.01.
Race 1
Vince Merli with the new track record in 1:32.31. Simone Faggioli was only seven cents behind Norma M20 FC, while Zardo was third at 3.86.
Race 2
At around 2 p.m., the flood breaks out. Competition stops for over an hour and then recovers in the rain. The director of the event declares "Wet Race", wet climbing time and mounts the rain covers. But the leaderboard did not change and Christian dominated Race 2 followed by Faggioli at 3:21 and Zardo at 7:36.
