Present and future of OSELLA. The always winning Italian "barchettas" ready for the evolution into Carbon!

Turin, 20 September 2023.

The 2023 competitive season was full of successes: Christian Merli dominated the European Mountain Championship and claimed his fifth title with the Osella FA30 3000 V8, the same model with which Diego Degasperi won the single-seater group of the Italian Mountain Speed Championship. The Prototypes from Turin won in the CIVM the CN Group and the ProtoBike Group respectively with Alberto Scarafone (Osella PA21 2000 CN) and with the young Filippo Golin (Osella PA21 JrB 1000), and finally the latest born Osella PA21 4C Turbo won on its debut, driven by Achille Lombardi who was Vice Absolute Champion of the CIVM and winner of the E2SC 2000 class.

All this shows that the traditional technology of the steel frame is always a winner, but to go even further it is necessary to adopt more advanced technologies and therefore the choice inevitably fell upon composite materials. As a result a new project was born thanks to the more than thirty-year collaboration between Osella and engineer Giuseppe Angiulli, who from today onwards also takes on a new role. He is longer merely the Technical Director but will also become responsible for company management. Able to count on his wide network of collaborators, the continuity of the prestigious brand is assured. In fact, the new company project also envisages the valorization of historic cars, a sector that has been little or poorly followed up until now.

A specific and detailed press release will be issued shortly.

The year 2024 will therefore be one to remember for this epochal evolution for Osella, a company which has dominated both on track and in hill climb competitions for over fifty years. But there’s more. The new chassis is designed to comply with the new FIA regulations, thus ensuring compliance for at least 12 years, and it will be interchangeable with the current ones. As a result, existing customers will be able to update their cars. This means that the substantial fleet of Osella PA21, PA30, FA30 and JrB cars can all be converted to the new carbon frame. This operation will allow those who have made investments in recent years to have a new and more competitive car at a lower expense. We are working hard to have the chassis prototype ready in April 2024 with the start of production in May 2024.

This new chassis will be the basis for the new Osella PA31, which will be born with deeply revised suspensions and aerodynamics while maintaining the approach of making the various evolution steps as interchangeable as possible. The presentation date of the new car is not yet defined as we are awaiting the final draft of the technical regulations by the FIA. In the coming months, instructions and costs for the various models will be prepared in order to draw up a calendar with customers who are in the process of organizing their future sports programs.
